Birthday Cake!

I am writing this months later but wanted to share about my birthday cake from this past October! I have been baking vegan (without butter or eggs or any other dairy) for awhile now, but this was my first legitimate attempt at a layered cake. I did a lot of research beforehand, but I think cakes are just something that require practice (and in my case a lot of practice).

I attempted a simple vegan vanilla cake with vegan vanilla buttercream frosting. The cake turned out a bit too dry and I wasn’t very happy with the frosting recipe. I will be testing out a new recipe in the next couple of weeks for my half birthday (because, yes, I am that person) and will share that soon.

It was my first time using a lot of cake decorating tools so I stuck with something simple and decided to go with an orange ombre style frosting on the outside of the cake. I used some beautiful flowers that I picked up at the Ballard Farmer’s Market that morning and was very happy with how they decorated the cake!

Even though the cake didn’t meet my expectations, it was still delicious and a fun way to practice new skills and celebrate turning 27!
