Frequently Asked Questions

What is Occupational Therapy?

  • The American Occupational Therapy Association describes OT as, “the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.”

The Holistic Occupational Therapy services I provide are a part of integrative medicine using holistic practices to support whole-being wellness. To learn more, visit the Holistic OT Page.

What is an Occupation?

  • The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework states that occupations are, “Everyday personalized activities that people do as individuals, in families, and with communities to occupy time and bring meaning and purpose to life”. Occupations include taking care of your body like cooking and eating, getting dressed, keeping good hygiene, exercising, and sleeping. Occupations can also include fulfilling important roles such as being a partner, an employee, a friend, a child, or a parent/caregiver. Occupations also include doing things that bring you joy like dancing or singing, engaging in sex, gardening, hiking, playing an instrument, painting, and praying or meditating.

Is OT right for me?

  • Probably! Life is brilliant, but we all go through periods of change or struggle as well as experience trauma and pain. We are all on a healing journey and holistic occupational therapy can support you as an independent treatment or as a part of an integrative healthcare team. For more guidance, contact me for a free 15-minute consultation to find the right offering for you!

What do I need to wear or bring for a session?

  • Comfortable clothing is recommended for each session. Everything will be provided for you unless you would like to bring your own water!

What can I expect during my Holistic OT Session?

  • You can expect to relax. Prior to the session, I contact you to ensure we create the most comfortable and relaxing environment for you and your needs. We will talk for a few minutes to discuss your healing journey, occupations, and intentions before beginning a practice of deep breathing and relaxation. From there, I choose therapeutic modalities that will best support your goals and healing. To review the types of therapies I use, check out the Holistic OT page. If appropriate, I will send you home with suggestions to continue bringing relaxation into your day as well as to support your engagement in meaningful occupations. I adhere to CDC guidance regarding health and safety policies for COVID-19.

Where are you located?

  • I am currently seeing clients in-person in a mutually decided location. I also offer virtual options.

Do you offer sessions outside of Washington state?

  • I cannot offer sessions to those outside of Washington state due to our state licensure.

Do I need a physician’s referral?

  • You do not need a referral for an Initial Evaluation with me. After the evaluation, if we decide together that more treatments would be appropriate, I can work with your doctor to receive a referral. I can also receive referrals from your naturopath, chiropractor, physician assistant, psychologist, or advanced registered nurse practitioner licensed to practice in this state. Please contact me if you have any questions about this process.

Do I need to have a daily meditation practice?

  • Nope! Each client receives an individualized holistic wellness plan that is specific to their goals and experience. All are welcome!

Do you accept insurance?

  • Unfortunately, I am unable to accept insurance at this time. I am working on setting up systems to accept HSA/FSA, but cannot currently accept that as payment.
